Job Description
- Participate in pre and post well planning and presentations.
- Review fluids program in order to prepare orders and mixing plans.
- Instruct and supervise crew for mixing and handling of products on site.
- Gather samples and perform tests to determine trends and identify contaminants.
- Control the drilling fluid within defined specifications and record test results to identify trends.
- Interpret property-test data to establish required treatment or action.
- Perform complete, accurate and timely well-site analysis of all drilling fluids parameters required.
- Determine the cause of fluid, hole, or system problems to assist in treatment recommendations.
- Recognize drilling problems and propose solutions.
- Determine chemical treatments required to optimize drilling parameters.
- Supervise rig personnel performing chemical additions and recording drilling fluid parameters.
- Manage product inventory to ensure availability.
- Monitor daily drilling operations to reduce or eliminate problems associated with drilling fluids.
- Provide daily drilling fluid reports to the operator’s drilling supervisor and Complete reports needed for the final well summary.
- Attend and participate in safety/engineer meetings and brief the drilling crew on any aspect of drilling fluid usage.
- Maintain accurate and timely maintenance of drilling fluids records (Mud Reports, Materials Concentrations Form, Drilling Fluids Recaps and any other records or reports requested by the company and/or operator).
- Ensure that all drilling fluid test equipment is well maintained and regularly calibrated
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in mud engineering or drilling fluids.
- Basic drilling fluids certification, IWCF is preferred.
